Review:

Myth: 4/5

A touching fantasy that focuses on two characters trying to learn to open up and trust someone set against an epic backdrop of Gods battling for dominance. I really like that kind of juxtaposition. It’s like this large scale game of the Gods being played out, but the story hinges on two mortals being able to communicate.

Isaura and Leonel have had rough goes when it comes to relationships one hopes to depend on in life. Their meeting is anything but affectionate, but they must learn to trust each other. Isaura’s story dealt with her inability to have children and what that did to herself and her marriage.

Magic: 4/5

The Gods were below the sea, they had some Norse characters and traditions mixed with some characters and demi-god roles made for the author’s world. There was definitely a lot of playing with the theme of the power of emotion and feeling. That idea that Gods, in their infinite existence, don’t value mortal lives, feelings or emotions. I am a sucker for that kind of dynamic and the one trying to be ‘god-like’ but succumbing to the charms of humanity.

Overall: 4/5

A great start to an epic oceanic adventure. While Leonel and Isaura’s story is resolved within book one, war is on the horizon and there are plenty of threats and threads left open to explore in the next book.
