Review:
Myth: 4.5/5
I wasn’t really sure what I was in for in this story. My understanding from the description sort of ended at chapter five when Emilia’s sister was murdered, but I have to say I loved where it went from there. A murder mystery wrapped up with demons and witches was exactly what I didn’t know I needed. The demons in this story had the fae-like attributes, impeccable manners, varying degrees of ability to lie (but always able to obscure the truth) and beautiful to the point of distraction.
Magic: 4/5
This is one of those stories where if only the older generation would have shared just a bit of information, things could have gone very differently. BUT, they didn’t. This leaves Emilia to figure things out for herself, with a lot of preconceived notions that may or may not be true. I did love that she had distinct moments when she realized this and did a very precise calculation on if the magic was worth the cost to her. It made for a much better story than a heat of the moment decision.
Overall: 4.5/5
Main character on a vengeance mission where the ends will justify any means, check.
Distractingly stunning, but most likely deceitful, demon, oh yes.
This book had everything and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
