Goodreads synopsis

Review:

Myth: 3/5

Though first in a new series about Maren, a legendary underworld seer, the first few chapters of this book were a little hard without having read the other Kingdoms of Lore/Dragons Rising stories. I have not read those, and I think I’d recommend starting there before jumping into this one. I could tell that their were supposed to be deep relationships between the characters introduced at the beginning, but there were so many of them, and a lot of history (two other book series worth) that though I could push past the missing information and continue on with this story, it felt a little odd to do so.

Magic: 3/5

A magical world with shadow magic, speaking to the dead, dragons, witches and more. You can tell there is a rich magical history to the world, more of which, I’m sure you can discover in the author’s other books.

Overall: 3/5

The lore of the underworld and the custom of the fated mate of the shadow king are favorite themes of mine, but Maren and the king’s chemistry didn’t leap off the page at me. A sweet, found family story filled with magic and sacrifice. Prepare yourself for a cliff-hanger as this book sets up for an epic conclusion.
