Goodreads Synopsis

Review:

Myth: 3/5

Zhu’s story is epic and sweeping as it takes her from an assumed fate of nothing, to a powerful rise. Zhu was determined and willing to go after what she wanted at all costs, she was fierce and clever. I enjoyed her character immensely, but wasn’t as swept away by the literary fantasy telling of the tale. It reads like a heavy historical fiction, which was a little intimidating to get past.

Magic: 3/5

There were some paranormal elements, spirits, gifts and destiny, but the focus of the story was very much the historical reimagining.

Overall: 3/5

I forever love the concept of like calls to like in the making of destinies. Those unlike the others around them were anchors to each other driving towards their destiny, good, bad, or nothing. An epic reimagining of China and the Mongol rule.
