Review:

Myth: 5/5

A small island town, a big secret. This story unfolds with expert care, giving us drips of information as we want and need it most. I loved the way that the story toyed with present-day activities and past events. Alternating chapters, with alternating perspectives, give voice to many parts of the story. Though some might think there are a few too many perspectives, I was hooked on each one.

Magic: 4/5

This is a naturalist type of magic. I’ll say ‘witches’ because it’s easiest to relate to, but it’s not overly witchy. The women of the island have capabilities for spellwork. It’s definitely not the focal point of the story but adds a certain extra flare.

Overall: 5/5

Very atmospheric. I recommend this for people who like to read fall vibe books in the autumn. It has a heavy focus on an unresolved murder on the island, which, while the main character was too kind and warm-hearted to be Veronica Mars, did give me some vibes of the show’s first season. I enjoyed the light suspense. The way the story unraveled had me hooked!
