Goodreads Synopsis

Review:

Myth: 3/5

The introduction to the Iron Fey world is a slow build. We are gradually introduced to Meghan Chase, a normal teen in her natural habitat. Although there are plenty of red flags that something abnormal is happening here, Meghan refuses to see them and focuses instead on standard teenage behavior, getting her drivers license, being popular, etc.

Things finally get interesting when her brother is missing and she has thrown herself into the nevernever or land of the fey to find him. As we start to learn a little more about Meghan and her ties to the summer court (and therefore her usefulness to the winter court) we start to see a bit more of her character. She transforms from a sort of clueless teen to a woman who would do a lot to save those she loves. She doesn’t shut down in moments of terror but tries to think and defend herself with whatever resources she has available.

Finally, she finds herself on a quest, with sworn enemies, starting to harness the power of her heritage. This is a Meghan that I’d like to learn more about. She and her unlikely allies find their way to a confrontation with the Iron King and the story gets interesting just as it ends.

Magic: 3/5

A delightful introduction to the summer and winter fey. I did like the magical backstory given for the creation of the Fey and how that led inevitably to the Iron Fey. This makes for a unique twist on the land in the nevernever.

Overall: 3/5

A little bit of a slow start, but about halfway in the quest has begun and the story gets much more into world building and interesting character backstories.
