Goodreads Synopsis

Review:

Myth: 3/5

Ash made a promise to Meghan, that he would find a way to be able to be with her in the Iron Realm. As we know, promises are taken very seriously by the Fey, so book 4 is Ash’s story, as he journeys to the ends of the earth (literally) to keep his promise.

Ash’s story wouldn’t be complete without our favorite travel companions Puck and Grim. The group sets off on a quest much like those we’ve seen in the previous Iron Fey books, but in this case, Meghan is absent. She is running the Iron Realm as Queen.

The only way that Ash can think of to be with Meghan is to be human, to get a soul, then he’ll be able to touch and live with Iron. This is no small task for the Fey. They travel to the end of the world to face trials to prove his worth. Without any spoilers, Ash and Puck encounter someone we know, and that they did not think they’d find. This as well as many of the events in the trials really force Ash to know his mind. Does he really want to be human, to age, to die, to be without his powers, just for one lifetime with Meghan?

Magic: 3/5

Ash goes through some pretty interesting trials at the end of the world. Literally seeing a future as a human, experiencing weakness and a conscience. The focus was definitely more on what it is to be human, without magic.

Overall: 3/5

This was Ash’s time to shine. He had his own backstory with a first love and the games of power and deceit in the winter court. He had to overcome those in his own way and decide if he was meant to be at Meghan’s side no matter the cost.
