Review:
Myth: 4/5
We continue the delightful journey of Yumeko’s mission to fulfill her promise of protecting the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers. Only now we have the addition of a compromised Tatsumi, who has been taken over by the demon Haikamono who once possessed the sword. Throughout the story, Yumeko is the only one consistently wanting to protect Tatsumi, even though the others have given up on him as a lost cause and no one knows where he is for much of the novel. It’s a race to see who will find the scroll first, and if protecting it is still the most important thing.
Magic: 4/5
One of the best parts of this novel is getting to hear the thought process behind Haikomono - he relishes in the bloodletting he gets to do early in the novel, but you still come to sympathize with his plight of entrapment (even though his methods are a little evil). We also see new examples of Yumeko’s ingenious, illusion fox magic and how she grows in her ability to use it.
Overall: 4/5
A strong second book in the series that continues to entertain and delight.
