Rose is an awesome main character - she loves her brothers and is responsible for taking care of them. She’s stubborn and powerful but caught in a bind because she can’t actually use her strength to help them out of poverty. She has the unique ability to flash white - the whiter your flash, the stronger your power. But since she lives in the Edge, it’s not seen as a benefit, and she’s also responsible for taking care of her two brothers - Georgie, a necromancer, and Jack, a changeling. Their lives are complicated when a noble from the Weird shows up, insisting on sticking to the family like glue. Plus something sinister is stalking Rose’s neighbors in the Edge, and she can’t leave them defenseless…

Ilona Andrews can do no wrong! Here is another stellar universe where the Broken (our world) is connected by the Edge to the Weird (a mirror of our world with magic). Rose and her brothers live in the Edge, where they scrounge to get by. Each of them has a unique magic and I love that we have different POVs, which are really so different. We get to see each of them use their magic, the thought process behind it, and the POW! moment when we see other characters impressed by them. That’s always my favorite. The Edge is unlike any urban fantasy I’ve read before, and it’s so well done.
