Review:

Myth 4.5/5

William, the ex best befriend of Declan from book 1, get his own standalone story. He’s been hiding in the Broken for the last 2 years, moping around because he’s alone and doesn’t have a family, when the secret spy agency from the Weird shows up to recruit him. Suddenly he’s in the swamps of the Weird, seeking revenge on Spider, an enemy agent with a past of hurting changelings, and meeting Cerise, an Edger with a family feud to settle and missing parents to find. They are forced to rely on each other to succeed, but can they trust each other and has William found a woman with a vicious streak like his?

Magic 4.5/5

A different world from the first book set in the Edge - darker, bloodier and with an older way of using your Flash in a fight. I love the chapters from William’s because as a changeling his thoughts are much more direct.

We’re also introduced to a new character, Spider, and his work for the Hand, which brings about magically altered characters who work as spies and assassins, and sets up the ongoing conflict between the Hand and the Mirror for the next 3 books.

The magical world is very consistent with that of the first book, with just a few new capabilities and magical know-how thrown in for fun, and a whole new setting with new dangers in the swamps of the Mire.
