Review:

Myth: 4/5

I love a good con-artist story and one filled with magic and masks is right up my alley. The world building was grand but also pretty intense. I got a little lost in some of the early world building, trying to remember the details of the world instead of noticing what was going on with the story and characters. It’s a bit of a longer book, so it was an investment, but about halfway through it definitely came together for me to truly focus on the story and characters and that made the second half was a wild ride.

But even from the beginning, I was hooked on Vargo, Ren and the mysterious Rook.

Magic: 3/5

Magic fell into the same category as world building for me, it was a lot to take in for the first half but eventually the rules were becoming more clear and the magic started pushing the story forward. It feels like a story where a lot of the goals of the magic will be revealed in the next book. Book one was more about the magic vibes.

Overall: 3.5/5

Once I was in the world, the need to figure out who was con-ing or betraying who and which characters were leading double lives was inescapable. I was seduced and betrayed with the rest of them. And with where things left off, I’ll already dying to get my hands on the next book to get right back into the story.
