Raina has lived her life with so much outside of her control. Her family separated by circumstances of the kingdom in which she lives and the power that flows in her family’s blood. Her rage at hiding what she can do and not being able to protect those she cares for has boiled to a breaking point as the story begins.
Raina is fierce, she lets nothing slow her down, if she needs a skill she learns it, sure her pride can sometimes get in the way, but she is always able to recognize that and find her way to the skills she needs to survive. She has met her match with the Witch Collector. Alexus is used to being in control and can do nothing to control Raina. A heated enemies to lovers adventure as Raina unravels the little known history of her world.
Magic: 4/5
The magic was beautiful. It was even more so in the way that Raina experienced it. Much of the magic has to do with song, and Raina was born without the ability to speak, but is able to sign and feel the magic one would sing. The vivid imagery of the threads being woven in creating magic is one that I’ve always imagined but never seen put into words, and Charissa Weaks nailed.
Overal: 3.5/5
A fierce heroine paired with a dark and powerful hero are off to try and save those they love, if they don’t happen to kill each other first. Even with resolution to Raina’s original goal encapsulated within the first book, the story definitely is epic in scope leaving you wanting more.
