Review:

Myth: 4/5

I love the fire theme throughout these books. My favorite quote, “I search her eyes for doubt, fear, uncertainty, but all I see is that fire.” I’ll let you guess who that’s about. The ember was alive in the ashes and has grown to a torch flame. The fantastic part is that it’s not just Elias and Laia.

Parts of this story, of this hunt, are told through Helene’s eyes. At first I didn’t find her a compelling character. She was so focused on sacrificing herself and saving Elias in the first book that I wasn’t sure how she’d recover when forced to hunt him. Her story, thankfully, became bigger than loving Elias.

Magic: 4/5

So much left unanswered, but so many new pieces fall into place in the second installment. The jinn start to make more of an appearance and the history of why they’ve been dormant starts to unravel a little bit more. It seems like we still have no idea what(?) Laia is but that’s just fine with me at this point as long as she continues to find her strength.

Overall: 4/5

A great build with an action packed ending (of course), but still pushing us forward in the larger story of the Empire. Next book is already loaded on my kindle ready to go.
