Review:

Myth: 4/5

Zélie definitely remains my favorite perspective, and the potential romantic line with Roën was soooo much better than Inan. This book definitely shows all the struggles and no-win decisions after the initial magic revolution. It got into the decisions no one wants to make, but someone has to.

While Amari had a strong start in this book on her path to be queen, she kind of went off the rails quickly. I couldn’t really understand her character progression, it was as if on the way to prove her worth to the elders she reverted to the only strength in ruling that she had known, he father’s example.

Magic: 4/5

Magic is back and the magi must unite to fight the monarchy in civil war. It’s not pretty, there aren’t a lot of great outcomes for either side, but the magic is back and even more of it than they could have imagined.

Zélie leading her reaper clan was one of the best things for her character and introduced more heartbreak and accountability for her as she has feels she has even more lives for which she’s responsible.

Overall: 4/5

There were some crazy character shifts in this second book, especially with Amari. It’ll be so interesting to see where everyone ends up and what the future of Orïsha holds.
