Review:

Myth: 4/5

Picking up directly after the events of Solstasia, book two pushes both Malik and Karina farther than they thought possible. Malik is faced with ongoing decisions of what he’s willing to do for the acceptance he finally feels. While Karina seems faced with what is she willing to give up. Though on separate paths for a majority of the story, Malik and Karina are inexplicably bound and that comes through even in their separate parts of the story.

Magic: 4/5

Unknown to the characters in book one, a magical rite that was performed has a companion ritual, without which, the gods tend to get angry. I thought that this really propelled a lot of the story forward, moving toward this second rite, and the escalating disasters that reigned down on Sonande until it as completed.

Overall: 4/5

Each character is driven to new highs and lows on their journey. No one really escapes without a little moral ambiguity which made me really lean into each character all the more. A fantastic conclusion to this adventure in Malik and Karina’s journey as everyone wrestles with finding the best, worst option that they can still live with.
