Review:

Myth: 4/5

I loved Harper’s character. As a girl being dropped into a fantasy world, was unbelievably brave, kind and strong. She has weaknesses, she has a disability, but everything about her screams, I’m going to do what needs to be done, so either help me figure out how or stay out of my way. Rhen and Grey are really very traditional fairy tale characters, the cursed prince and the loyal captain of the guard. They worked great in the first book, and clearly the story is giving us room to expand their character arcs through the rest of the trilogy.

I really think it was Harper that pulled me so thoroughly into this book, most of the rest of the story is a traditional beauty and the beast trope. Fine with me of course, some stories never get old.

Magic: 4/5

It’s funny, because in an enchanted castle you’d think there would be more magic, but all the magic in this book belongs fully to the sorceress Lilith. She has limits on how much she will disturb Rhen’s attempts to break the curse, but she is always there to delight in torturing everyone along the way.

Overall: 4/5

A great start to the series, great characters, favorite tropes and seemingly more on the way since this is the start of a trilogy.
