Review:
Myth: 4/5
I have to admit that in the beginning I thought there were maybe too many perspectives. Chapters shift to different characters and sometimes a character will only get one chapter of perspective. Overall, it ended up working, it was just a lot to take in at the beginning. Priya was the most compelling to me as she was clearly hiding something and I wanted to unravel her secrets. Her intense interactions with Malini were something to be savored and their understanding of each other’s drives and desires was on point.
Magic: 3.5/5
I was actually not that into the Ahiranyi magic, it was fine, a kind of earthen magic born of dark waters. The star of the show for me, and the magic I couldn’t take my eyes off of, was that of the Aloran. It was part of their religion that children were born with a true, secret name, that prophesied something about their life. I am a sucker for a prophecy and a sucker for waiting for this kind of shoe to drop!
Overall: 4/5
Burning Kingdoms is surely epic in scale, featuring a female/female romantic pairing and magical and powerful women doing what needs to be done for their people.
