Goodreads synopsis

Review:

Myth: 5/5

Let’s start with the fact that this is a vampire, murder mystery set in Oxford. I’ll stop us right there, I was already in love. The setting was perfect. The take on vampire lore, hierarchy and existence, was fresh and the main character, Jack Valentine was a treasure. I couldn’t get enough of her on page. She was a bit of a mess at times, but she owned it so fully, and she fixed it. She held her ground and she took no shit.

And let’s not get started on the torturous tension with the Baron of Oxford. This is definitely a series, so we’re set up for a long haul on Jack’s romantic life, but book one teased us with dark and dangerous chemistry versus the clever, sexy and stable partner you could have a good life with. Jack has all kinds of fun to work through on all fronts of her life, and I can’t wait to see what she gets up to next.

Magic: 5/5

Sticking strong with the vampire secrecy, sense of smell and intrinsic hierarchy, Jaffrey plays with these constants while adding her own flare to the Seekers, the vampire detectives that help keep vampires a secret.

Toss in the age and mystery of Oxford and this urban fantasy is off to a killer start.

Overall: 5/5

If you can’t tell, I loved it. Give me more Jack, more of the Baron and a lot more of the quickly escalating mayhem thrown at the Seekers of Oxford. Jack won’t roll over easy, and I can’t wait to see what kind of fires she lights next.
