Goodreads synopsis

Review:

Myth: 4.5/5

Book of Night used that magical back and forth story telling, chapters flipping from the present to the past to help establish backstory. I do love this move! The first few ‘past’ sections did take a little bit to pickup, but overall the story unfolded beautifully.

Magic: 4/5

This is a modern fantasy, taking place in our world with the emergence of shadow magic. I enjoyed the heck out of the big picture of the magic. As this book definitely kicks off a series, a lot of the details are still to be explored.

Overall: 4.5/5

Charlie Hall is the type of heroine that sucks me right in. I loved her.

“If she couldn’t be responsible or careful or good or loved, if she was doomed to be a lit match, then Charlie might as well go back to finding stuff to burn.”
