A Promise of Fire (Kingmaker Chronicles #1) by Amanda Bouchet

Review:
Myth: 3.5/5
The story was fast paced, exciting and immediately swept you into the action. Cat had sass for any situation and so many secrets to unravel. This is a fantasy romance that starts with kidnapping. I didn’t love the way that this one played out and had a few to many moments where the kidnappers were trying to get Cat to lighten up about being taken. The banter there just seemed a little off and it sat with me for most of the book. That part does resolve itself with choice, but it went on a little long.
Magic: 4/5
I loved the magic and political world. Bouchet uses the Olympian pantheon of gods in her world, which was fantastic! I loved exploring this wholly new world with the characters and understanding how Poseidon, Zeus and Hades are moving humans across the chessboard.
Overall: 3.5/5
An exciting introduction to Cat Fisa and a dangerous political world where magic means power. Giffin’s non-magic family has taken control of the southern kingdom and he needs a magical expert. Once he’s got his hands on Cat, he’ll do anything to keep her. While a bit of a rocky start with the romance, I’m jumping right into the second book after finishing this one.
