Review:

Myth 3/5

This is another retelling of Hades and Persephone, told from them perspective of a jaded Persephone and hopelessly in love Hades. They meet after being separated for a century, and Hades, like the reader. Is trying to figure out why now? Persephone flippantly refers to how they used to number their old arguments, but they don’t actually seem to argue much. I just never felt like they were in tune with each other.

The death of her two children is also referred to several times as the final act that drove a wedge between them. Hades wanted to grieve together; It only hardened Persephone’s hatred against Zeus.

Magic 3/5

Hades is your typical dark shadowed badass (with wings this time!)

Persephone has lived in the mortal real long enough where she has been rendered nearly powerless, except for a pink dagger tied to her essence. (I love the idea of carrying around your own personal pink dagger.) In the Underworld she is intent on finding her pomegranate seeds, the source of her true power.

Really interesting take on Persephone’s power and ambitions and I would love to know how that works.
