I really enjoy Dina’s character, a no-nonsense innkeeper. She aims to keep her guests safe and increase her inn’s ratings in an effort to have more traffic through the inn as part of a grand plan to find her missing parents. She is good at her job and she is great at dealing with complications (and she happens to run into a lot of those).
In the second installment of the Innkeeper Chronicles, Dina agrees to host an interstellar peace summit at the inn. This will include three groups that have been in a gruesome and unwinnable war for years. They all need peace, but as no side is without heavy, personal loss, the odds of a peace treaty seem very low.
Dina works with an Arbitrator, George, who thinks he can make the peace happen, but needs Dina and her inn to help. The warring groups bring some familiar characters back, Arland, the Vampire and Nuan Cee, the merchant, while also introducing new characters and The Khanum, an Otrokar, the third group with interests in peace.
Dina’s goals and inn’s reputation are on the line to try and make this peace happen and once she puts her mind to a problem, she’ll figure out a way to solve it, in a comfy innkeepers robe, of course.

I love the connection between Dina and her inn. First as she tailors it to the needs of her guests, and eventually as she harnesses more and more of the combined power to accomplish her goals. I still think we’ve just scratched the surface on what she can accomplish as an innkeeper, but the flurry of people staying at the inn for the peace talks is also sure to help sure up the inn’s power.

This was a great second installment, continuing to introduce us to the interstellar dynamics at play, the innkeepers powers and leaving us crumbs to follow in hopes of Dina being able to reunite with her family. A perfect balance of old and new characters, I’ll definitely dive right into the next book to see what happens.
