Review:

Myth: 3/5

I was immediately drawn into this book because I can’t resist the Hunter being a Huntress and the tortured assain POV. I felt through much of the story that Nasir and Zafira were meandering, they had a goal, a reason to be on this quest, but it took quite a while for them to think through the implications of success, especially Zafira.

Without spoilers, I had a hard time with the plot point that drove Zafira and Nasir together, it just didn’t sit well that Zafira was able to team up with them after. Faizal definitely gave justification and Zafira never really forgot about the events, but it was a point I kept going back to.

The romantic plot was slow-burn, enemies to lovers, which happens to be a favorite of mine, so I guess I was rooting for it no matter how they got there.

Magic: 3/5

I liked the style of magic in the world where magic had disappeared. We definitely get a lot of hints of what is to come, and lots of dramatics at the end of the first book. I’ll definitely have to keep reading to see how the magic system evolves with the story.

Overall: 3/5

I listened to this as an audiobook and the prose was definitely lyrical, something I may not have noticed as much if I’d read a physical copy. The story itself is a pretty slow build but gives a welcome introduction to a strong cast of characters. A lot was unraveled at the end of book one, so I’ll definitely be jumping into book two to see how this story concludes.
