Review:

Myth: 4/5

Harlow is so relatable. I felt like this girl was just trying to live her life the best that she knew how. She’d had some tough breaks, was trying to piece herself together and sure, operating on the wrong side of the law, but at the end of the day, she was just trying to make things work. She relieves a magical object from a collector, she knew she shouldn’t, she told herself she shouldn’t, oh, but she does. And from then on, it’s her and her sword, partners in crime, whether she wants it or not.

There is a decent amount of world building at the beginning of the story, giving the lay of Luma, for me it slid a little into info dump territory, but the first few scenes took on an almost heist like atmosphere, so I stuck with it and was glad.

Magic: 3/5

Even though we cross all kinds of magical folk in Luma, most notably sorcerers with all kinds of fun gifts, I really think that the sword was my favorite. It’s tough to make a character out of an inanimate object, but it worked and really, the sword and Harlow’s bond popped throughout the story.

Overall: 3.5/5

We toured the Luma underworld with a bounty on our heads and made it out alive. This introduction to Harlow’s world and history was a wild ride and I’m excited to see what she gets into next.
