5 Questions with Emma Hamm

5 Questions with Emma Hamm

We are thrilled to host USA Today Bestselling Author, Emma Hamm! We are kicking off a greek mythology, fantasy romance set of reviews and Emma Hamm’s Myths and Monsters were some of our favorite retellings.

1. You've written so many different worlds and series' do you have a favorite? or a character that you love the most?

Oh the Otherworld series has and likely always will be my favorite. There's just something about Celtic Mythology that really calls to me, probably because it's in my lineage. I loved writing the different, old types of faeries that were dangerous. Of course, I still write the fae. But I just loved that series so much!

My favorite character happens to be from that series as well. Aisling! I think there's a little witch in all of us, although writing that book did end up with a haunting in my house from one of the witchcraft books I borrowed from a friend!

2. If you were a character from Greek Mythology, who would you be and why?

I think I'd want to be Medea. No one really talks about her all that much, because women were always buried in old myths like that. But she was in the story with Jason and the Argonauts. She literally fights a dragon to win his affection, and then later when he chooses another princess over her, she gives the other woman a poisoned gown. Then as a final "You should have chosen me", she leaves him and flies away on another dragon.

3. Do you have a favorite greek myth? Do we or will we get a retelling of it?

I really love the story of Aphrodite and Hephaestus. I think there's something really lovely about the most beautiful Greek Goddess (Hera don't send me bad luck for saying that), falling in love with someone who is considered to be ugly. And yes, you will be getting a retelling of that! Not this year, but definitely in 2022.

4. Having read Stolen Goblin Bride, but not the Of Goblin Kings series yet, what drew you to Goblins as the romantic lead fae in your books?

David Bowie.

No seriously, I wish there was a better answer, but honestly I still remember sitting in 7th grade and my teacher putting on the Labyrinth. I was utterly enthralled by that movie. The goblin king, the glitter, the magic! It's captivated me ever sense.

5. What is up next? or how do you decide on which project or series to work on next?

Up next! I am finishing the Goblin series, so all 5 books will be out by August. And then the end of the year is finishing up with 3 rapid releases (Sept, Oct, Nov) of some classic horror monster retellings. Think Crimson Peak! It'll be Dracula, the Wolfman, and Frankenstein with a nice little dark romantic twist.
