Protect the Prince (Crown of Shards #2) by Jennifer Estep

Myth: 4.5/5
Evie did not slow down in book two (not that I expected her to). We start with heavy court politics that leads into even more court politics. Evie knows how to handle herself in these situations, but it’s especially great because no one expects her to be good at it. She was such a sidelined royal that she continues to be underestimated.
The slow burn romance with Sully is kicked up a notch with added complications when they visit his family in Andvari. Sully’s past and Evie’s plans to save everyone for Morta make everything ten times more complicated than it needs to be, but those are exactly the tension building scenes that keep us on the edge of our seats.
Magic: 5/5
Yes to everything about this magic progression. I love what I said about book one that she had a defensive talent so she had to learn how to defend herself, and defend herself well, since someone is always trying to kill the queen. Now that might not be entirely true, but she is so well equipped to take care of herself.
Overall: 4.5/5
Another fantastic installment in the Crown of Shards series. Evie is more powerful than she knew but she didn’t need it to succeed, which really just makes it all the better. I can’t wait to see Evie face off with the king of Morta.
