Goodreads synopsis

Review:

Myth: 5/5

I feel like Evie was all my favorite things. I loved in this story how she used her time with the gladiator troupe to really re-evaluate how she had presented herself at the palace. She had to reinvent herself for her safety but also decided to reinvent herself to better herself. The reluctant heroine through and through, I think Evie will become a new favorite of mine throughout the course of this series.

Magic: 5/5

I’m certainly a sucker for a well kept magical secret and in this case the way that Evie is able to keep her stronger abilities to herself makes for such a satisfying vengeance story. I also loved that she didn’t only rely on her magic. Since Evie has more of a defensive magic, she had to lean into the gladiator skill set to really prepare herself for the moves she wanted to make.

Overall: 5/5

Pretty much the perfect start to the Crown of Shards trilogy. I can’t wait to see what's next for Evie after all of the massacre, gladiator fights and general mayhem she got into in the first book.
