Review:

Myth: 4.5/5

Part two of the Loom Saga follows Ari to Nova. She and Cvareh head to the dragon’s world, Ari’s goal, to assess Petra, and decide if she can be trusted to lead the army that Ari could build. Ari’s still filled with rage, violence and practicality and it’s really fun to see her so starkly contrasted in the dragon’s world, where there is beauty for no other reason than enjoyment.

Ari and Cvareh’s relationship escalates really giving Cvareh a chance to shine.

Meanwhile on Loom, Florence is given an impossible task. Florence’s chapters took a little longer to build. By the end they really pay off and she is willing to make a stand for her beliefs, but it just took a little meandering to get there.

Magic: 4/5

There is a whole Crimson Court scene, essentially dragon court politics settled gladiator style, that really shows off the beauty/brutality duality of the dragon world. Ari fits right in with her perfect Chimera magic and continues to build her magical arsenal.

Overall: 4.5/5

If you can’t tell, I really enjoyed the contrast in this book. Loom was a practical brutality, steam punk vibes and science. Nova is not. Dragons of Nova shows off the beauty and brutality in the dragon courts. Not only does the duality have it’s own contrast but the Nova/Loom contrast sets us up for the final showdown determining the fate of both worlds. Beautiful world building and delightful character progression, especially for Ari and Cvareh in this second installment.
