Review:

Myth: 4/5

With a spooky Halloween countdown, this story is just as action packed as the first. Cady and Lon are a compelling team with great chemistry and the foundations of a strong family unit. I really enjoyed how this book pulled us into the magickal mystery but also gave a healthy dose of family drama as Cady navigates parenting a teenager with developing abilities.

Magic: 4.5/5

There are sort of two parts to unraveling the magick happening in this book. On one hand you have Cady dealing with her power. She has less than positive association with it, given what her parents were willing to do to get their hands on it, and so even taking steps to learn how to use it is a challenge. On the other hand, Cady given her family circumstances, Cady is a self-taught magician. This means that while she’s good, and has created unique magick of her own, she doesn’t have all the answers when tracking down another rogue magician. Both threads bring new unique world building as we dive a little more into the Arcadia Bell world.

Overall: 4.5/5

I was on the edge of my seat the entire read. Though it is the middle of summer, this would also make for a wonderful fall read (for those mood readers out there) with a great Halloween atmosphere.
