Myth: 4/5
I really can’t explain how much I loved Gideon’s irreverent, macabre, shit talking. She was a whole vibe all on her own. Add in half a dozen other necromancers and their sword wielding defenders, in a locked room murder mystery with lots of mayhem and of course, necromancy.
Magic: 4/5
There is definitely a complex history and rule set to the necromancy. The house heirs are locked together in what some might call a dark academia challenge. I listened to this on audiobook, so some of the discussion on necromantic theories through their challenges were a little hard to follow, but it didn’t stop my enjoyment of the book, and I’ll probably just read physical copies of the rest of the series so it’s easier to process.
Overall: 4/5
A whole lot of otherworldly necromancy, power plays, murder mystery and can we call the cavalier’s space pirates? This book was a darkly atmospheric ride from start to finish. I laughed out loud at many of Gideon’s lines, she was a real treat, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
