2023 Faves - so far...

2023 Faves - so far...

It’s that special time of the year, the end of June, and we’re halfway through 2023. I’m taking a moment to reflect on my favorite books so far.

These Infinite Threads (This Woven Kingdom #2) by Tahereh Mafi

This book is exquisitely written. I really have no other words. I was entranced by every scene, every sentence. I think this book took place over the course of like one day, but I was so entranced by every word that I felt like I’d known the characters for years.

House of Roots and Ruin (Sisters of the Salt #2) by Erin A. Craig

I admit I was late to the Sisters of the Salt books, but the victorian horror vibe of this one got me good. Dangerous secrets, forgotten truths, and so many ways that Verity’s story could go wrong, it is a terrifying delight to flip to the next page.

One for My Enemy by Olivie Blake

A modern-day Romeo & Juliette reimagining with a magical twist. I couldn’t get enough of the rival families, challenged loyalties, and lengths to which the characters would go for love. This one made Olivie Blake an instant-buy for me.

The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi (Amina Al-Sirafi #1) by Shannon Chakraborty

Amina was an utter delight! A pirate captain attempting retirement, she is pulled back quickly into the chaos and adventure of the seas. This story sets up so beautifully for an action-packed series. Amina’s insistence to her scribe that the story must be told in her voice makes for entertaining interludes within the telling of the adventure itself.

Hell Bent (Alex Stern #2) by Leigh Bardugo

With the tagline “Get in Losers, We’re Going to Hell,” I knew it would be fantastic. However, there is also a line from this book that literally still lives in my head rent-free. No spoilers, but it has to be the most perfect use of the word predilection…ever.
