Review:

Myth: 5/5

Epic fantasy with a laser focus on the human beings involved in massive change. Through multiple perspectives, The Bone Shard Daughter introduces us to a smuggler, a governor’s daughter, a rebel and the emperor’s heir. Even characters that I didn’t particularly love were so captivating, the book was hard to put down.

Lin’s struggles with her father dove deep into the father/daughter aspect of their relationship that the larger aspects of their relationship like ruler/heir sort of sneak up on you.

Magic: 5/5

An intriguing magic system with bone shards of the population making up the root. A magic system and a dangerous physical tax on the populous. Add in an adorable mythical creature sidekick and I just want more.

Overall: 5/5

Many epic fantasy books start off slow and build to a powerful tale. I have no doubt that this trilogy will be amazing because I was caught off guard by how quickly I was sucked into the character’s adventures. This is definitely not a series to miss.
