Review:

Myth: 3/5

Mami Wata - mermaids as those that ferry the souls of the dead, it’s a unique story and a complex world of gods and mythology. Simi was young when her human life ended and she is the newest of the Mami Wata swimming in the waters. She has some attributes similar to The Little Mermaid, think, “I want to be, where the people are.”

Her human heart leads her on a journey to try and seek an audience with the supreme god. Though we knew there would be romantic entanglements, I didn’t feel like we really got the scenes explaining how she fell for him, it was more just that she did over the course of the journey.

Magic: 3/5

The vengeful and power-hungry gods are definitely the highlight of this world. Anytime we have a trickster god, I’m in.

Overall: 3/5

A really unique concept and great mythology. I didn’t love the romantic plot, but Simi was a lot of fun to root for on her quest.
