Goodreads synopsis

The first book in the Last Hours series. A new shadowhunter trilogy that takes place the generation after the events of the Infernal Devices series. While having read the Infernal Devices (and all other Shadowhunter books) makes this story more fun, it’s not required to have read the other series to enjoy the story.

Myth: 5/5

Clare has built a world rich in the history and legacy of Shadowhunter families. I love being able to trace the families through the various time periods that she captures within her books.

In this book a lot of characters are introduced early as Cordelia Carstairs makes a debut in London. She is desperate to make friends that can help save her father who is facing trial in the Shadowhunter capital of Alicante. She is also desperate to be a hero in her own right.

The London characters are captivating, even those that seem like side characters, have their own stories and secrets to be revealed within the course of the series.

And lastly, the drama. Clare is excellent at knocking the wind out of us at the last minute. Let us all remember the end of City of Bones (sigh). She is like a fairy, great at giving her characters exactly what they wanted, leaving them to realize they’ve trapped themselves.

Magic: 5/5

We’re left to wonder about a lot. There is the Herondale family trait of seeing ghosts that seems slightly different for Lucy than the rest of her family. And James seems to have an inheritance of his own from Tessa.

Overall: 5/5

Within the first half of the book I was in love with all the characters. I can’t wait for the next book. March 2021 can’t come fast enough.
