Review:

Myth: 4.5/5

Does my heart hurt after finishing this book? Probably, but I’m too numb to really feel it. I’ve said it before but Cassandra Clare is the master of giving you everything you wanted in the worst way. Chain of Iron is the midpoint in the Last Hours series, so on top of the normal emotional warfare she puts us through, we’re at the climax of the series.

James and Cordelia continue to be a delightful tragedy, individually and together. Lucie really comes in for the win in this book with the sheer volume of secrets she’s keeping from everyone. The Merry Thieves stand together through doubts and danger way beyond them. So basically, exacatly what you’d expect from the young London shadowhunter contingent.

Magic: 4.5/5

I actually love the magic in this series more than some of the others because it’s more exploratory of demons as characters instead of mere bad things to be killed in fight scenes. In the first book we got into the demon princes and various demon realms. In book two we get more of the same with a little teaser on what the other side might entail.

Overall: 4.5/5

Chain of Irons was beautifully told. The perfect blending of the twists of the story with each character’s emotionally journey. I can’t help but marvel at it while I sit here trying to figure out what to do next with my life.
