Review:

Myth: 4/5

Kova notes that Married to Magic is a world not a series, making each book a complete story but giving us glimpses of other parts of the magical world of Midscape. Book one features, you guessed it, elves, but expect a dash of fae (and it sounds like that will get explored more in the next book).

I adored Luella. She was a great character. She had plans for her life and they were interrupted, and while she was certainly able to roll with the punches, she was always looking for that little piece of life and happiness to call her own. It made for compelling motivation, especially as she re-evaluated what that little piece of life and happiness could look like.

Magic: 4/5

The Human Queen has a powerful counterbalance to the Elf King’s magic. Luella has to learn how to use it, since it’s been hidden from her for most of her life, but her power is meant to save both the mortal world and Midscape, it is part of the reason for the existence of the Human Queens.

This is one of those great books of magical counterbalance, fire and ice between Luella and Eldas or the balance of inverse seasons between Midscape and the mortal world. I love the imagery that it creates.

Overall: 4/5

I was hooked right away, a cozy standalone fantasy romance with lots of potential to explore more stories in the world.
