We were teased at the end of Book One that Ragnor Fell was not dead but held captive by Shinyun. In Book Two he makes his appearance. But by the time Magnus sees him, is it already too late to save him? He may already be a willing servant of Sammael, destroyer of worlds.
At the end of book one, Magnus and Alec gave Shinyun a chance, I think it’s safe to say she did not take the hint and continued seeking out more powerful demons to which to align herself.
This adventure leads the whole gang, Magnus, Alec, Clary, Jace, Simon and Isabelle to Shanghai. They are tracking Shinyun and Ragnor to the ends of the Earth, or even to demon hell dimensions to get back the Book of the White.

Alec has always been the rational, controlled one of the group. He originally had to balance Jace and Isabelle and later, to balance Magnus. I loved that in this book Alec got to be impulsive. He finally trusted his gut and tried something on a hunch to save the man he loves.
Overall: 4/5
This was a great shadowhunter and downworlder adventure. Somehow this book brought together the powerhouse of Shadowhunter characters, which was amazing, but still was able to tone down Jace and Clary enough to make this story about Magnus and Alec.
