Goodreads synopsis

The Eldest Curses series takes place right after the events of the Mortal Instruments series. The Mortal War is over and Magnus and Alec are trying to get to know each other on a romantic vacation in Europe.

Myth: 4/5

Magnus Bane is one of my favorite characters from the Shadowhunter books. The High Warlock of Brooklyn, he has style. He also happens to be in love with a Shadowhunter. Alec Lightwood is not one of my favorite characters, although he certainly grows on you as portrayed through Magnus’s eyes.

Though Alec made a bold declaration of his feelings for Magnus in the Mortal Instruments series, this series takes a look at how they try to make a relationship work. A Shadowhunter is not always welcome at Downworlder events, and things that Alec learns about Magnus, especially that he may have accidentally founded a demon cult, should definitely be reported to the Clave.

With a backdrop of Paris, Venice and Rome, Alec and Magnus part vacation, part track down a demon cult that is growing in threatening activity and also spreading rumors that Magnus is their leader.

Alec and Magnus have to figure out how much to share with each other, when it’s ok to protect each other and how to work together to give their relationship a chance.

Magic: 4/5

Mangus is the son of a prince of hell. He has magic in spades, but he doesn’t flaunt it that way.

Overall: 4/5

In classic Cassandra Clare style, the first book in the series “solves” one problem and opens up three new ones. I think it will continue to be an entertaining ride as Alec and Magnus learn how to be together and the rest of the Shadowhunters and Downworlders learn how to accept it.
