Review:

Myth: 4/5

A romance retelling of Jafar and Jasmine, with Ali as the greater villain? I didn’t know I wanted the book until I saw it, then I needed it. I will say this book is tricky, the trigger warning starts with “this book depicts consensual non-consent sex” and then jumped right in. Without much knowledge of the characters and jumping right into the situation, it was hard to grasp the consent, but Katee Robert builds on that throughout the entire story and through Jafar and Jasmine’s relationship development.

It’s very similar to Neon Gods (or I guess Neon Gods is similar to this) in that it reframes the world to be more of a contemporary mob boss hostile takeover, which works well in the reimagined story.

Magic: NA

No magic to speak of, just that uncanny ability to read desires based on attention to detail.

Overall: 4/5

Jasmine, though downtrodden her entire life, finds her way to the center of a power struggle. While exploring her dark fantasies, she also has to decide what kind of place she wants in this world. This is a dark and sexy tale that brings Jasmine into her own and explores the wicked villain of Jafar.
