Review:

Myth: 4/5

Another delightful installment in the Wicked Witches of the Midwest cozy mystery series. I just adore these books (I’d hope so since I’ve now read like 30 stories with full length novels and shorts). The town is a delight, the town characters give off that same Stars Hollow vibe (but witchier). The Winchester banter is consistently snappy. I love the shifting power dynamic between Bay and Aunt Tillie. I think that will be the coolest thing to continue to explore in the series.

This is book 18 in a series, so I hope no one jumps right to this book. I promise it’s much more fun to start at the beginning, but I would note that this mystery is much more intertwined with the last installment than usual: The Witch is Back (Wicked Witches of the Midwest #17) .

Magic: 4.5/5

Over the course of the books, Bay has grown steadily more powerful. She’s had to make tough decisions on how to use her power. I love that it sort of keeps growing, and now, she’s starting to be looked to as the magical head of the family (don’t worry Aunt Tillie is still alive and well). I think this will be my favorite subplot to watch, to see how their relationship continues to evolve as Bay continues to take charge.

For a cozy mystery series, there is also really no end to new magical fronts that the Winchesters get to explore. Obviously with Bay’s powers, there is a lot happening with ghosts, but we always get to explore a new facet of the paranormal.

Overall: 4/5

Obviously, I’m highly invested with the number of these books I’ve read at this point, but I wouldn’t have gotten this far if the stories weren’t consistently fun and entertaining, and they are always both. I’m from Michigan, living in California, so I am always eagerly awaiting the next dose of northern lower Michigan witchy small town life.
