Review:

Myth: 3.5/5

V is probably just ahead of Zsadist as far as a brother who has had a rough go. He’s probably just as scary but his self restraint makes him more of a silent, lurking threat as opposed to a volatile minefield. Though presented through all the previous books as an active part of the brotherhood, his story dives into how isolated he keeps himself. Enter Jane, the human to challenge him. I liked Jane because even though she had every right to be terrified, she is human, and kidnapped, she carries herself with authority. Partially because she’s the doctor in charge of a patient, but also because she quickly sees V’s self-isolation and decides it's time for that to end.

I like V’s complex relationships (or lack thereof) with his parents, it helps fill in a lot of gaps about what we know about him. And it’s perfect that V has to deal with all of this right after Butch has found a woman.

Magic: 3.5/5

This story gave us a bit more of a glimpse into the Scribe Virgin, who fascinates me. I’m glad she seems to have some human attributes. This book also fantastically weaves in further setup for Phury’s story. He deserves a little love so hopefully we’ll see that in the next book.

Overall: 3.5/5

Jane was one of the most spirited female leads we’ve seen yet. I’m also dying to see what will happen with the Scribe Virgin’s little revelation at the end. I would love to see the mold broken in the Brotherhood to include a female warrior.
