Review:

Myth: 4/5

Gin was a delight to read. She was confident and ready to take charge of any situation, especially the ones involving murder and mayhem. There were parts of the book that read as kind of repetitive, often repeating actions or descriptions, but it could also have been part of Gin’s methodical character. It was noticeable but didn’t stop me from being thrown headfirst into the Appalachian underworld and enjoying every minute of it.

Donovan and Gin’s romantic thread grew on me, he was a bit too straight-edge, but again, I think that was the point, a conflicting counterbalance to Gin’s morally grey (at best) character.

Magic: 4/5

I liked that though Gin was a magic wielder, she didn’t rely on it. I assume that this will change over the course of the books, but it means that she can take care of herself in most any situation.

Overall: 4/5

I was quickly sucked into the Ashland elemental scene. The story took us through the vice dens of the criminal underworld along with the high society opera. With Gin leading the way, there was never a dull moment.
