Review:

Myth: 3/5

I was definitely drawn in by the premise of this book, an urban fantasy in North Carolina, even adding djinn to the mix of characters. Arden’s story and her case started a bit slow for me. It took well over half the book for Arie to decide what she wants to be in the Otherside and how she wants to be treated. While a strong character, she definitely flails a bit through the first half of the book figuring out how to interact with those of the Otherside. There are certainly justifications for her mis-steps, it just didn’t match with her inner dialogue of how she wanted to be perceived.

Not a strong romantic subplot. Arie’s current companion was met before the story started, so we didn’t get to see much chemistry. He also seemed unlikely to be endgame, but it was very early in Arie’s story, so anything could happen.

Magic: 3/5

The team up of vampires, weres and elves leaves me interested in the world's politics and how the species' power dynamics will evolve.

Overall: 3/5

I enjoyed Arie, and I’m a sucker for a paranormal investigation. I didn’t always enjoy the ‘pretending to be human’ aspect of the story and definitely got more into it when we could more fully embrace everyone’s supernatural aspects.
