I decided that I can’t possibly select only 5 top books for the whole year, so I’m combining this list with the list I made in July - 2022 Favorites So Far - to make a top 10!

Bloodmarked (Book 2 of the Legendborn Cycle) by Tracy Deonn

This book repeatedly took my breath away. Tracy Deonn is a master of her craft as she takes us through Bree determining how to learn hers. I was captivated from start to finish as Bree faced new heights and tragic lows. I can’t recommend this series enough.

A Light in the Flame (Flesh & Fire #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I devoured this book. Ash and Sera’s story is officially more compelling to me that Poppy’s. I realize that they are intertwined, so that’s not a super fair assessment, but I love the power plays of the Primals and the attempt to figure out who knows what and who can be trusted.

Ash and Sera are scorching. Sera’s secret mission is out, but she and Ash’s romantic tension is off the charts.

Babel by R.F. Kuang

Inserting the silver and translation trade into the historical world of England and the British Empire in the 1800’s was masterfully done. The language plays were brilliant, the character’s captured an incredibly complex internal mental battle clearly and thoughtfully. I highly recommend it.

A Taste of Gold And Iron by Alexandra Rowland

At chapter two, I’d say I was hooked, from there on, this book was emotionally unputdownable. It wasn’t a ‘keep you on the edge of your seat,’ action story, but the mental turmoil and emotional insights were so captivating! I highly recommend.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna

Mika is an amazing heroine, daring herself to open up to a new family that might like her, not just need something from her. Allowing herself to bask in a freedom that she’s been told she could never have, sharing her magic.

I really think that heartwarming is the best label I can give this story. I highly recommend it.
