Myth: 3.5/5
I enjoyed Amina, she was so much stronger than she knew and started figuring it out through the story while trying to survive. In a post-apocalyptic world that now includes paranormal as well as non-magic humans, there are a lot of ways to die. There are traditional tensions between the magic and non-magic folks, especially those without magic trying to level the playing field.
In book one, Mina and Charles put together a found family. I thought six characters here was a little much to start, so I didn’t get a great sense of them all through the first book, but you definitely get a good sense of the main characters.
The love interest side was good, I thought it was headed toward a love triangle but thankfully Mina acknowledged that she wasn’t here for that and made decisions.
Magic: 3/5
I didn’t get a great sense of the rules of the magic system. At times it seemed like anything goes, however, this is also the first book in a four book series, so it’s definitely possible that we were only given the need to know information in book one with a larger magic world built through the rest of the series.
Overall: 3.5/5
A unique paranormal, post-apocalyptic world. There were a lot of cliffhangers at the end of book one, so it definitely leaves you wanting to know what’s going on and where the story takes us.
