Myth: 4/5
The tension between Lara and Aren reached new heights in the Traitor Queen. It was so intense, it certainly had me flipping pages like a madwoman. For my preference, it over-indexed a little on the tension and left a little out on the heat of the romance, but was still absolutely enjoyable.
There was a lot of setup and machination for further books in the series, featuring other couples, which was fun to see. I also loved that Lara got to be unabashedly herself for one, no matter how much emotional turmoil she was in.
Magic: N/A
As with the first book, there is no inherent magic in the world, though I still stand by calling it fantasy romance. It didn’t lessen my enjoyment at all since the focus was on the politics, court dynamics and romance.
Overall: 4/5
A quick read and a happily ever after for Lara and Aren. I enjoyed the ride and the threads left dangling for future books to pick up on.
