Review:

Myth: 3.5/5

Callie has a rough go from start to finish in this book. She’s a young woman in a terrible situation, and get’s herself out of said situation by life-altering means. While her deal with the Bargainer may have saved her life, it sets her on a path, at a very young age.

The author danced a thin line between a girl’s first infatuation in the past and a hardened woman in the present. She has to decide whether to open her heart to the man who broke it, even if she is in his magical debt. As the storyteller, Callie’s feelings were well articulated, but the Bargainer is the one that sits in a much more morally grey area and it’s sometimes difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt in the early relationship building.

Magic: 4/5

I really did enjoy both the Bargainer and siren’s magic. The idea that magic has an embodiment or essence of its own that takes hold is one that I’ve seen alluded to before, but never so central to a story. It worked so well with both characters.

Overall: 3.5/5

A page-turning romance, the story telling is impeccable. It strikes a delightful balance between past and present, and gives you just the right information and just the right time. I loved the way that the story unfolded.
