Favorite Spinoff Books

You know that feeling, when you fall in love with an ensemble or supporting character in a series, and then the author announces that they are also in love the with character? And that they are getting their own series or story?

Or what about the authors that decide there are other time periods in the world to explore.

Yeah, these are some of my favorite feelings. Here are a few of those stories that we love.

The Guild Codex: Unveiled by Annette Marie

The Guild Codex world is amazing, with four intersecting series, it’s some fantastic urban fantasy worldbuilding. I knew I loved the Crystal Druid in Dark Arts & A Daiquiri, but nothing could have prepared me for how much I love diving into the world of the druids and fae in the Unveiled series.

Flesh & Fire Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Flesh and Fire series, starting with A Shadow in the Ember, is backstory for the wildly popular, Blood & Ash series. I have to say that while I love Blood & Ash, the Flesh & Fire story just seems so much more epic to me!

The Eldest Curses by Cassandra Clare & Wesley Chu

One could argue that the entire Shadowhunter world is spinoff series. One of my favorites though is Magnus & Alec’s. This is sort of a continuation of the characters from the original Mortal Instruments, but with Magnus and Alec on mainstage.

The Iron Covenant by Ilona Andrews

A spinoff story that starts in between books in the Kate Daniels series. Hugh is a fantastic character, an amazing villain, in some cases, a FOIL to Kate, or maybe what Kate could have been if she made different decisions. That’s why I love that he gets his own story. There’s a lot to learn about him that doesn’t really fit into Kate’s story.

Night Rebel by Jeaniene Frost

The last spinoff series in the Night Huntress world, Night Rebel features everyone’s favorite morally grey vampire. It’s just so fun to see a character that’s been such a chaos agent through the other character’s stories stumble into his own adventure. It’s even better that the rule breaker is paired with a Law Guardian, with a lot of power and secrets of her own.
