Ivy is back! And has to battle in our minds with Pike for Sexiest Vampire Award. I know Trent is supposed to be Rachel’s forever mate, but we hear a lot about her old love Kisten and there are a lot of horny vamp pheromones flinging around.
In all seriousness, we see Rachel struggle with the fact that Hodin has woven himself into every aspect of her life. The first half of the book felt a lot like setup after setup, but it’s pleasantly long so there was a lot of payoff to read through as well.
We also get some great demon interactions, and you know, demons will be demons…

I had a hard time with the beginning of this one, I get some of the unique traits of vampires in the Hollows world, but even the last book, Million Dollar Demon rehashed that plot line a little too much for my taste. Thankfully though, after the first 3 or 4 chapters it’s almost nonexistent for the rest of the story. We finally get back to the good stuff, throwing Rachel headlong back into demon history and politics. This is what I truly love about the Hollows series and I was so happy to see Rachel back in the thick of it, with Cincinnati politics taking a back seat.

A lot of magic that we’ve seen Rachel previously use, put to new uses. And we see her roommate acting like a newbie Rachel, and how easily she can get into trouble…

Similar themes here for me, I liked when Rachel was able to swing the pendulum back to her unique witch-born demon flare. I also loved that we got to see Rachel and Trent spelling together a bit. I hope this book is a turning point for them more actively working together, but we’ll have to wait and see on that one.
