Review:

Myth 4/5

There was more death in this than I remembered. I supposed it’s to be expected as part of a rebellion, but rereading this as an (older) adult and it hits a little harder.

After returning to the capital city of Rajmuat, Aly steps into her full responsibilities as spymaster for the rebellion. While she has some excursions of her own, more of her time is spent Accompanying the young ladies to the castles or deciphering information. As things in the rebellion pick up, changes are more fast paced than they were on Tanair, but Aly’s days are notably similar.  Thankfully we still have conversations with Kyprioth to keep us entertained, a more serious Nawat to deal with, and see Aly step into the role of Duani, or teacher, to her new spy network. She really comes into her own in this book, including her more serious nature.

Magic 5/5

It’s beautiful. More world building - love the intersections with the Dawn Crow and Sky, the crow goddess. Darkings are sent to aid Aly, a welcome throwback to the Wild Mage series. And we see more of the fabled kudarung, who were loyal mounts to the raka queens of yore.
